The Sony FX6 Full-Frame Cinema Camera is a compact cinema camera with 4K 4:2:2 10-bit internal / RAW external recording and a revision to the SONY PXW-FS5M2. Key features include:

What’s Changed? The standout feature of the Sony FX6 Full-Frame Cinema Camera is the full frame sensor, and a close second is 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording. These are major upgrades over the Super35 4:2:0 8-bit recording of the SONY PXW-FS5M2 XDCAM. Other updates include a base ISO of 800 and extended high-sensitivity mode at 12800 ISO. The Cinetone gamma curve is included for easy matching with Sony FX9 and Venice cameras. The FX9 does lose the rear viewfinder found on the FS5.

Recording in 4:2:2 10-bit 4K at 60p. The FX6 can record internal DCI 4K at 60 fps in a high-bitrate 4:2:2 10-bit XAVC-I codec. Lower bitrate 4K/120p recording is available and scaling down to 1080p allows for frame rates up to 240fps.

RAW Video. Shoot 16-bit 2K-RAW and 4K-RAW video when paired with the ATOMOS SHOGUN 7. Recording RAW provides an enormous amount of detail and information, and it gives you about fifteen stops of dynamic range in your footage.

Smart Grip. Sony introduced a new version of the Smart Grip with the FS5 featuring full 360° rotation, assignable buttons, an assignable dial, and a joystick to enhance control. It is largely unchanged on this latest revision.

Dual CFexpress Type-A Card Slots. The Sony FX9 uses the latest CFexpress Type A media for the highest bitrate recording and offers a variety of recording options for file scanning and redundancy. The CFexpress slots double as SDXC slots for less demanding frame rates and bitrates.

Built-in Wireless Streaming. Whether controlling via a smartphone or tablet, streaming wirelessly to a client monitor, or wirelessly transferring files to editorial, the FX6 is prepared to handle all of your wireless needs with built-in Wi-Fi.

Center Scan Mode. Center Scan Mode selectively crops a 1,920 × 1,080 image from the sensor’s center, allowing support for traditional Super35 cinema lenses. This gives the FS5 all the characteristics of a Super 35 film camera and avoids any vignetting. The crop mode also gives you a little extra reach when you need it and 1080p works for your project.
